SLO Grassroots Democracy

Our Principles:

1. We support publicly-financed campaigns; we believe elected and appointed office-holders should be accountable to citizens, not special interests.
2. We support healthcare for all.
3. We endorse high quality publicly-funded education for all.
4. We oppose privatization of government functions, deregulation of corporations, and the use of our public assets for special interests.
   
5. We support living wage laws and labor's right to unionize.
6. We advocate a foreign policy based on diplomacy and negotiation.
7. We support a green economy that includes environmental protection and sustainable energy.

The rise of corporatist capitalism must be stopped.  Education and health-care are suffering tremendously in America because U.S. tax dollars are going straight to the pockets of corporations being paid billions to work "for the government" under the guise of "privatization" and "patriotism".  As taxpayers, we have lost control.  Our hard earned tax dollar is going to thousands of private corporations who often squander the money, leaving a few very wealthy and a growing number poor.

• Ongoing wars where certain corporations are making billions in contracts with the military.
• The push to keep America at war so these winners of military contracts can continue raking in billions of dollars.
• America's dependence on oil when other technologies have been available for years that could have greatly decreased our consumption and need for oil.
• Ignoring the growth of many green energy solutions due to corporatized energy companies pushing what is most profitable for them.
  
• Health insurance becoming more and more expensive with less and less coverage.  Because healthcare is an essential need for all, and because health insurance companies concentrate on profit, not service, single payer "Medicare for All"  is eventually the answer.
• Education getting less and less priority.  What money is left after the special interest groups get their way and our tax dollars, and loopholes are created to protect billions of dollars of corporate profit from tax?
• Deregulated financial institutions using tricks of their trade to lure Americans into loans and credit cards that are oppressive, creating financial struggle and/or bankrupcy, while a few within the financial industry take in billions in profit.
• Freedom of speech should not include allowing mainstream media to purposefully misrepresent the truth when presenting a "news" broadcast to the public.

To bring progressive people together in support of positive political action that includes support of publicly-financed campaigns, a green economy, healthcare for all, living wages, and world-wide diplomacy and negotiation.

We promote a system that strikes a balance between a healthy middle-class, quality education and a responsible environmental and energy policy.

SLO Grassroots Democracy promotes communication, education, and events for organizations and candidates within our local districts who reflect our values.
